About HCCP

Survey Overview

  • The Human Capital Corporate Panel survey is officially approved by Korea National (Statistical Office approval number: 389003).
  • The Human Capital Corporate Panel (HCCP) survey was initiated in 2005 to understand the quantitative and qualitative level of resources in Korean companies as well as how and what kind of data these companies accumulate with regard to their human resources. Since then, this survey has been performed every other year as a mid- and long-term panel survey intended to track the same companies.
  • The human resources data of the sample companies are collected and combined with the corporate financial data held by the Korea Investors Service (KIS)1 and the patent information held by the Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO) to form a set of corporate panel data (Linked-Survey-Secondary-Dataset).

Necessity and objectives

  • Nowadays, corporations face rapid environmental changes such as globalization, computerization, consumer demand changes and technological changes. To cope with these changes, corporations are rapidly shifting their core capabilities from cash capital to human capital or knowledge capital.
  • To improve the competitiveness of Korean corporations, it is absolutely vital to maintain and enhance knowledge and skills of the human resources possessed by corporations in order to cope with environmental changes. This is necessary from a long-term point of view, as well as in consideration of policy reform, such as reforms to the financial system, taxation system and the public sector.
  • On the other hand, a systematic data build-up is required to enable the measurement and analysis of the process through which corporations identify their human resources and accumulate human capital during the resource identification process.
  • The objective of this panel survey is to identify the actual status of corporate human resources and the achievements of knowledge and skill formation in Korea by creating time-series data for corporations and their employees. Also, it is intended to develop panel data in order to analyze the effect of these findings on corporate performance.
  • Based on this information , the HCCP began building up systematic panel data to understand the human resources possessed by Korean corporations, the efforts exerted by corporations to develop their human resources, the status of human resource development within the corporation, and its impact on the corporation’s performance.
