Corporate population

  • 1st(2005), 2nd(2007)
    • The population for the human capital corporate panel survey shall be all corporations within the territory of Korea.
    • Sampling Frame
      • - The survey population includes corporations employing more than 100 workers and listed in "KIS Corporate Data 2005," published by the Korea Information Service.
      • - Corporate size and type: 1,899
    • Industries excluded : Industries where the accumulation of human capital is rather small or non-representative.
      • - Primary Industry (Agriculture, Forestry, Fishing) and Mining & Quarrying
      • - Some of Manufacturing Industry : Manufacture of Tobacco Products / Tanning and Dressing of Leather, Manufacture of Luggage and Footwear / Manufacture of Wood and of Products of Wood and Cork / Manufacture of Pulp, Paper and Paper Products / Publishing, Printing and Reproduction of Recorded Media / Manufacture of Medical, Precision and Optical Instruments, Watches and Clocks / Manufacture of Furniture; Manufacturing of Articles n.e.c. / Recycling
      • - Some of Tertiary Industry(Part of the industry in the third industry) : Electricity, Gas and Water Supply / Construction / Wholesale and Retail Trade / Hotels and Restaurants / Transport / Real Estate and Renting and Leasing / Public Administration / Health and Social Work / Other Community, Repair and Personal Service Activities / Private Households with Employed Persons / Extra-Territorial Organizations and Bodies
  • 3rd(2009) - 7th(2017)
    • The 9th Korean standard industrial classification came in effect on February 1, 2008, and the need for it to be applied to the sample design of HCCP emerged.
    • The HCCP population used in the 3rd year (2009) included 6 industries by major classification among all companies operating in Korea: Manufacturing Industry; Finance and Banking Industry and insurance; publishing/video/broadcasting and telecommunications, and information service; specialist/scientific and technical service; education service and arts/sports and leisure service.
    • Sampling Frame
      • - The population for HCCP sample extraction consisted of companies listed in the company overview information of the "KIS Corporate Data (2007)" of Korea Investors Service with at least 100 employees in 6 industries surveyed and capital of 0.3 billion KRW, with individuals and public companies excluded.
      • - Corporate size and type: 4,072

Corporate sampling-based

  • 1st(2005), 2nd(2007)
    • The company sample as the basic unit of the survey includes 450 companies.
      • - The company sample was extracted, first of all by industry (3 by major classification and 16 by middle classification), and then by size(100–299, 300–999, 1,000–1,999, and 2,000 or more workers) and business type (KOSPI, KOSDAQ, Service/externally audited/excluding general companies).

      • - Companies that could not be surveyed due to acquisition, merger, shutdown, change of industry, or refusal were surveyed based on the sample of other companies of the same industry and size.
  • 3rd(2009) - 7th(2017)
    • Companies for the survey sample numbered 500.
      Companies selected based on the Korean standard industrial classification (9th revision) in 6 industries by main classification (100–299, 300–999, and 1,000 or more employees).
      The sample was layered with the layering parameters and selected by random based on the steps of "use of existing panel" → "replacement of drop-out companies" → "removal of companies in the excluded industries and collection of new sample."

Employee Sampling

  • For the worker surveys, the team manager/member of the sampled corporations were selected according to the selection criteria by industry/corporate size.
  • Rules for selecting the worker survey targets
    • Employee survey is conducted on a team manager and team members
    • In case of manufacturing, the survey is done on administrative job (team manager, team members)
    • In case of financial industry, the survey is done on administrative job (team manager, team members) and service job (team manager, team members)
    • In case of non-financial industry, the survey is done on administrative job (team manager, team members) and core professional job (team manager, team members)

Survey Method & Process

  • As a general rule, the survey is based on onsite interviews.
  • The survey was conducted according to the process of "contacting the target corporation → schedule survey (prior survey) → questionnaire survey (main survey) → data collection".
