  본 연구는 전문대학의 취업지도 현황과 문제점을 진단하고 강화 대책을 수립하는데 목적을 두었다. 이를 위해 전문대학의 취업지도 조직및 운영, 취업지도의 내용 및 방법, 학생들의 취업준비 경험 및 요구,취업지도를 위한 산업체 및 지역사회와의 협력 관계, 정부의 취업지도 지원 정책 등의 내용을 중심으로 선행 연구 및 관련 문헌을 분석하였고 교수, 취업부서 직원 및 학생을 대상으로 설문조사와 면접을 실시하였다. 취업지도 강화 방안을 검토하기 위해 전문가 협의회도 개최하였다. 미국과 일본 등 외국의 사례 분석을 통해 우리나라 전문대학의 취업지도 개선에 주는 시사점도 살펴보았다.

  This research study was carried out to explore best policy measures on career guidance of two-year professional colleges in Korea. Since IMF economic crisis in 1997, two-year colleges have faced high rate of it's graduate unemployment because of no appropriate mechanism to cope with changing labor market demands. Therefore, this study was conducted to investigate career guidance mechanism and policies for elevating employment rate of two-year college graduates in Korea. 
  Document analysis including previous research articles was applied to identify problems, status, and innovative policy ideas of two-year professional college's career education and guidance. Questionnaire survey and an interview method were applied to investigate current status, problems, and innovative policy ideas of two-year college's career guidance. The consultation meeting of career guidance specialists and experts was held to formulate new policy measures for innovating college's existing career guidance practices.
  Depending upon previous research studies, three major facts were confirmed as follows ; 
  1) Career guidance of two-year professional colleges puts more emphasis on job placement of graduates. However, it should be extended from entrance admission to graduation for better career development of students. 
  2) Most of colleges are providing career information services through their own computer network system. But it is not well used by students as well as enterprises because of inconvenient low quality services. 
  3) More than half of college students want to have a job after graduation, but most of them has no chances to experience work and job in their fields. 
  Questionnaire survey and interview on students, professors, officers in charge of career guidance were conducted for finding current status, problems, policy ideas of the college's career guidance throughout the nation. Major findings are as follows; 
  1) About 64% of career guidance offices are belong to department of college-enterprise cooperation, but most of questionnaire respondents agree to that it should be upgraded for its appropriate function. 
  2) Most of students are preparing their employment after graduation but not satisfied with college's career guidance services. 
  3) Most of students are wanting more services on finding vocational aptitudes, interests and making career plan.
  4) Most of students want to have more chances to contact experts on the job. 
  5) More than 80% colleges are providing their own computer network services for career guidance, but these services are not satisfied with most of students and enterprises. 
  6) About one third of colleges are providing educational courses on career guidance, but facing difficulties of the course management including lack of experts and curriculum development. 
  7) Professors of two-year colleges are recognizing their educational responsibility as 42.1% of lecture, 26.1% of research, 24.7% of career guidance, and 7.1% of others. 
  This research study suggests policy ideas for innovating current career guidance practices of the colleges, depending upon results of survey research. The major policy ideas suggested by the study are as follows ; 
  1) Career guidance office should be leveled up as a professional organization of college system. Role division system should be also introduced between career guidance office and academic departments for more effective students guidance. 
  2) Career guidance services should be diversified in contents and methods for various demands of students. Computer network services for career guidance should be leveled up especially in information and guidance programs to reflect labor market demands. 
  3) A collaborative partnership system between colleges and community organizations including Businesses and enterprises should be introduced to provide job experience opportunities with students. 
  4) Curriculum and program development, specialist training and evaluation program development of career guidance should be supported by the Government in terms of finance and policies.
