우리나라 기관에서 운영·관리하는 자격은 2015년 말 기준 약 2만 개에 달함. 이 중 국가자격과 국가기술자격은 전체 자격의 4%, 최근 급속히 증가한 민간자격은 96%를 차지함.
국가기술자격 및 공인민간자격 응시자는 각각 약 200만 명 수준이며, 전반적으로 감소하는 추세임. 특히 19세 이하 응시자가 크게 감소함.
자격을 취득했거나 취득하려는 개인들에게 국가 차원에서 자격과 노동시장에 관한 기초자료를 수집·분석하여 합리적인 판단을 위한 정보 제공이 필요함.

The number of vocational qualifications that are operated and administered in Korea has amounted to around 20,000 by the end of 2015. Among them, national qualifications and national technical qualifications comprised of 4% of total qualifications, while private qualifications, which have recently been on the rapid rise, take up 96%. 
There are approximately 2 million Candidates for national technical qualifications and accredited private qualifications respectively, but the numbers are on the decline overall. In particular, candidates aged 19 and under have decreased significantly. 
There needs to be a national effort to collect and analyze basic data regarding qualifications and labor markets and to provide that information to individuals who are qualified or are trying to acquire qualifications in order to help them make rational decisions.
