우리나라 생명과학 분야 신규 박사학위취득자는 2005년 240명 → 2015년 899명으로 3.7배 증가함.
국내 신규박사학위 취득자 중 생명과학 분야가 차지하는 비중도 2005년 2.8% → 2015년 6.9%로 2.5배 증가함.
우리나라 생명과학 분야의 신규 박사학위취득자 중 33.5%가 주로 학비를 자비로 부담하였고, 장학금으로 주로 학비를 조달한 경우는 54.0%임. 반면, 미국은 장학금이 86.1%이며, 본인 부담은 9%에 불과함.
생명과학 분야 박사 배출 상위 5개 대학의 신규 박사학위취득자도 학비를 주로 본인이 부담한 경우가 33.3%임.

The percentage of new doctorate recipients in life sciences from domestic universities increased 2.5 times from 2.8% in 2005 to 6.9% in 2015.
Among the new doctorate recipients in life sciences from domestic universities, 33.5% have mainly paid the tuition on their own, and 54.0% have paid the tuition by scholarships. In the United States, however, 86.1% have paid the tuition by scholarships, and only 9.0% have paid the tuition on their own.
Among the new doctorate recipients from the top five domestic universities in life sciences in terms of the numbers of doctorate recipients, 33.3% have mainly paid the tuition on their own.
