우리나라의 2016년 청년층(15~29세) 니트 규모는 OECD 기준 18.9%, 한국의 현실을 고려한 니트 기준으로는 15.7%로 최근 3년간 증가하는 추세임.
성별 니트 구성비를 살펴보면, OECD 기준과 한국적 맥락을 반영한 기준 모두 남자의 비중은 증가하고 여자의 비중은 감소함.
고졸 이하 청년층의 니트 비중은 감소하는 추세이나, 대졸 이상의 고학력 청년층 사이에서는 증가하고 있음.
국내에는 니트에 대해 합의된 개념이 없으며, 공식적으로 니트 통계를 생산하고 있지 않음. OECD의 니트 기준과 우리나라의 맥락을 반영한 니트 기준에 차이가 있어 청년 실업 및 니트 관련 정책 수립을 위한 관련 지표의 개발·생성이 필요함.

Korea has seen a growth in NEETs (aged 15-29) in the last three years, with the figure as defined by the OECD posting at 18.9% and that as defined by Korea at 15.7%.
The proportion of men has declined whereas that of women has grown among young Korean NEETs as defined by both the OECD and Korea.
While the number of young NEETs among high school graduates or lower has decreased, the figure for bachelor’s degree holders or higher has been on the rise.
There is no commonly agreed definition of NEETs in Korea and the government doesn’t produce official statistics on NEETs. The difference in the definition of NEETs between the OECD and Korea necessitates that relevant indexes be developed in order to help create policies on youth unemployment and NEETs.
