A survey of college students finds that the biggest reason for choosing their current major was academic interest and aptitude (58.8%) followed by job prospects(33.4%), which suggests that many of them began thinking about employment when they were in high school.
When asked about their career plans after graduation, 53.5% of the respondents said they would seek employment in Korea, and as many as 22.5% said they didn’t have any concrete plans.
In their preparations for entering the job market, the largest concern was that they didn’t have sufficient qualifications required in their area of interest (27.6%).
As for effective employment support, the respondents demanded measures such as business-academia collaboration (39.6%), major-specific career programs (37.2%) and greater service by employment support centers including career development centers (29.3%).
