Only a small percentage of respondents (4.2%) said that they are not afraid of being laid off unexpectedly, and most of them (73.7%) are afraid of losing their jobs.
Paid workers are the most anxious over layoffs (3.93 points), but there is no statistically significant difference between their score and those of the non-employed (3.82 points) and non-paid workers (3.81 points). This demonstrates that non-paid workers such as employers and the self-employed are not free from such anxiety, either.
The anxiety over layoffs is higher among those who view their career as a tool to prepare for retirement (1.48-1.66 times) or as their social status (1.39-1.4 times). However, such anxiety is lower among those who regard their career as a social responsibility (0.75-0.78 times) or who maintain substantial communication with people outside their organizations (0.82-0.84 times).
