The NCS Learning Module is a teaching material or reference that can be utilized in education and training programs that are based on the National Competency Standards (NCS). Although the module is developed based on competencies required in various industries, many criticize that it cannot respond quickly to the volatility of the labor market. According to a study on the utilization and improvements of the NCS Learning Module undertaken by the Korea Research Institute for Vocational Education and Training (KRIVET), vocational training institutions continued to see an increase in the effectiveness of its utilization for the last three years (2020-2022). Vocational high schools also saw a year-on-year increase in both its utilization and improvement, although colleges experienced the opposite. Moreover, the number of vocational training institutions that are willing to adopt the NCS Learning Module continued to increase for three consecutive years, whereas the numbers dropped for vocational high schools and colleges compared to the previous year. Vocational high schools and colleges, but not vocational training institutions, mostly used the NCS Learning Module as a reference for class preparation or evaluation rather than as a main teaching material. As for improvements required in the module, most respondents said that they want the module to provide images and videos of step-by-step training.
