The purpose of this study was 1) to compare the high school students' career decision level and career preparation behavior level among sex, grade, school types 2) to examine the typology of students' career decision types based on their career decision level and career preparation behavior level and career indecision types, and3)to examine career counseling focuses among the career decision types.
1,165 high school students were served as research subjects for the present study.
The results demonstrated the following points :
1) There were significant difference in career decision level among sex, grade.
2) There were significant difference in career preparation behavior level among school types.
3) There were significant difference in career decision types among career indecision types. career decision types were A(high career decision level, high career preparation behavior level), B(high career decision level, low career preparation behavior level), C(low career decision level, high career preparation behavior level), D(low career decision level, low career preparation behavior level).
4)The career indecision types were ① information level about self and job, ② self confident level about career decision making, ③ insecurity about career decision making, ④ anxiety about self career.
5)A type students have high level in four career indecision types, and B type students have low information level about self and job and low insecurity about career decision making. C type students have low anxiety about self career. D type students have low self confident level and high insecurity about career decision making.
Based on the results of this study, following implications were made the career counseling : 1) career counseling teachers should diagnose students' career decision types and should help counselees in consideration of distinctive characteristics of students' career decision types. 2) career counseling teachers need to know that a lot of students generally lack career preparation and gathering effort of career information.
