The assessment and recognition system of lifelong learning is a necessary element in constructing for lifelong learning system. It is important to increase visibility of learning which takes place outside formal education and actively recognize its results.
Government has been tried to actualize the lifelong learning society through implementing the assessment and recognition system of lifelong learning like credit bank system, degree system of self-study, various vocational certification systems and so on. The purpose of this study is to analyze current status whether or not these systems are to ensure basic criteria for assessing and recognizing learning, and to provide developmental directions for the assessment and recognition system of lifelong learning in Korea.
The assessment and recognition system of lifelong learning were reviewed on basis of assessing and recognizing criteria as purposes, standard, contents, methods, operating body, and transfer system. It is required to increase reliability, transferability, equity, efficiency, effectiveness, currency, validity of the assessment and recognition system of lifelong learning. Therefore government should strengthen the quality of systems, and develop design and strategies for promoting the utilization of lifelong learning outcomes in society at large.
