Since the path-analysis model of inter-generational occupational mobility by Blau and Duncan (1967), many studies have attempted to analyse the mechanisms mobility have focused on revealing the reationship between educational attainment and occupational attainment.
domestic studies have dealt withe the issue of occupational mobility from the perspective of status attainment. In particular, sociological studies of occupational attainment have emphasized status- and class-related aspects of occupation. A study focusing on the specific path of occupational mobility is long overdue.
This study, utilizing the youth date from a survey conducted in 2001,attempted to build on the previous studies of occupational mobility by analysing the mechanism of inter-generational mobility among the new generation of youth aged from 15 to 29.
This study predicts that due to the increasing tendency of youth entering higher educational institution, the occupational attainment of the recent youth is likely to be affected by the educational attainment of their parents as well as their educational attainment level itself. This study enables to look at the relationship between the parents educational attainment and the children's educational attainment while controlling for the individual educational attainment level of the new generation.
