The purpose of this study is to provide evidence for career education and student guidance in high school and to provide policy implications. For this purpose, we use the data of the second-year high school students of the first wave data of Korean Education and Employment Panel (KEEP) provided by KRIVET. For the analysis of the relationship between the decision-making time and career maturity, ordinary least square was used. To solve the problem of sample selection bias, the generalized propensity score was used in the inverse probability of treatment weight method.??The results of the analysis are as follows. First, in the case of the students who made an early decision on which high school to attend, their mother had a long period of education, and they had a large monthly expenditure on private education, a clear career plan, and high career maturity. Second, career maturity level was higher when the decision on high school was made earlier. Third, there was no difference in academic achievement level compared to the average group even when the decision on high school was made early. Fourth, the earlier the school decision time, the higher their satisfaction with school.
Based on the results of this analysis, this study suggests that a basis for educational support be laid for students who make an early decision on high school, that efforts be made to grasp the needs for career education and educational demand of students, and that policies be prepared for the reform of private education.
