The purpose of this study is to analyze the perceptions and needs for training regarding the future job competencies required in the era of 4th industrial revolution. For this, we surveyed how the vocational training institutes perceive the importance and readiness for future job competencies that WEF addressed, the project-based instruction as an effective training method, and integration of advanced IT technologies for training. In comparing the results from two surveys conducted in 2017 and 2019, we found that the vocational training institutes perceived the future job competencies importantly, especially the complex problem solving, technical skills, and social skills. On the other hand, the degree of readiness to properly develop these competencies was perceived to be somewhat inadequate, revealing the need for institutional support and the competencies development infrastructure to support the 4th industrial revolution. In addition, while the positive effects of project-based instruction emerged as a suitable training method, there was a significant difference in the recognition of effectiveness according to occupation. Lastly, we found the use of advanced IT technology are gradually increasing. The implications for improvement of the policy and program development in response to the 4th industrial revolution were discussed.
